Yesterday it was raining early and we waited till 10am to load up the bikes and made to East Coast. The sky was still overcast with a slight drizzle. By the time we got there, it was clear but cloudy, cool and breezy, just wonderful to do a leisurely ride of over 10km.
We parked at the Lagoon end and headed to Fort exit. There we met a German tourist on a bike who has been visiting Singapore every year for 17 years. All brown and tan, he had wanted bright sunshine, though just came in a week ago from Bali. He'll be biking to Changi Airport and estimates 3 hours.
He speaks fondly of all the changes he sees each time he visits and this year he's been up the Marina Bay Sands, totally impressed! He has photos of the changing skylines from past years and the new look. It's amazing how a tiny country like Singapore metamorphosized. But actually the best of Singapore is not just in all the newness and advancement and economic success, he prefers going back to the original - he finds it in Kusu Island. Oh yeah... the first day into Singapore, he takes a boat ride to the island and spend the day there taking in all the old rustic, kampung style living, quiet tranquil, no rush, clean and clear freshness in the air. He's flying back to Germany tomorrow. Maxing out this last day with his bike to Changi Point. An amazing and unconventional tourist! A delightful encounter for us.
